Stosur posts second-round win
Sam Stosur has enjoyed a win overnight in Charleston at the Family Circle Cup.
Stosur, the fourth seed, received a bye directly into the second round where she faced Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova. The Slovak struggled to return Stosur’s first serve during the first set. However, with Stosur only landing 39 per cent of her first serves in the opening set, it wasn’t the weapon it usually is.
Despite this, Stosur managed to break her opponent twice to take the first set 6-3.
The second set was more of a struggle for the world No.11-ranked Australian. She improved her first serve percentage and didn’t concede a single break to Rybarikova. The Slovak had four break points on the Stosur serve, but she was unable to convert.
It was Stosur who eventually got the decisive break to take the second set 7-5 and set up a third-round encounter with either 14th seed Vera Dushevina or Kai-Chen Chang.
