Mixed week for Sam in Doha
Sam Stosur finished an unusual week at the Qatar Total Open in Doha with two wins and two losses.
The Australian began the week in the qualifying rounds and scored two straight-sets victories before going down in the final round in three sets to Russian world No.95 Anna Blinkova.
Yet after the withdrawal of Caroline Wozniacki, Stosur took her place in the main draw as a lucky loser – only to lose again, this time 6-4 6-2 to Karolina Muchova.

Although Muchova is currently ranked No.132, the Czech is a highly-rated prospect who has now won four matches in a row after beginning the week, like Stosur, in the qualifying rounds.
Muchova will next face Hsieh Su-Wei and is already projected to rise to the cusp of the top 100 after her performance this week – and higher still if she can beat Hsieh to take her place in the quarterfinals.
Stosur, meanwhile, next heads to Dubai for the WTA Premier 5-level event offering a prize money pool of $2.8 million.
She is a three-time quarterfinalist at the event, reaching the last eight in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
