Giorgi to strong for Sam in Prague

Sam Stosur’s run at the WTA Prague Open has come to an end following a straight-sets loss to Camila Giorgi in the quarterfinals.

The Italian beat Stosur 6-2 6-3 in one hour and 22 minutes to set up a semifinal clash against No.7 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu.

Giorgi, a powerful striker of the ball, ceaselessly attacked Stosur’s serve and forced the Australian into error.

She broke serve in the very opening game to set the tone for the match, and ended up accruing 13 break points – converting four to run out a comfortable winner.

Stosur reached the final in Prague in 2016 and had won her one previous meeting against Giorgi – at the US Open that same year – but on Thursday had no answer to the world No.58’s relentless aggression.

Giorgi finished the match with 23 winners to just 11 unforced errors in a masterful performance.

Stosur will continue her claycourt season at next week’s Madrid Open.
